2014 Annual Fund Campaign

Martin Luther. John Milton. John Peter Zenger. Benjamin Franklin. Susan B. Anthony. Upton Sinclair. W.E.B. DuBois. Paulo Freire. Most of these names will be familiar to you. They are just some of the people who used the power of the press to advance freedom in their time and continue to have an impact today. Their work made for bold moments in history, and they, along with many others, are who we celebrate at The Printing Museum.

Yes, we love historical printing technologies and promote both traditional and contemporary printmaking arts and crafts. But we open our doors each day to provide experiences for visitors that illustrate how important printing has been in the ongoing struggle for individual freedom and, especially, in the struggle for a free press.

And yet, we hear so much that “print is dead” and, to some, “irrelevant” in our hyper-connected digital world. I have my own bold statement to make about that! At the Museum, school kids eagerly print their own copy of the Declaration of Independence. Guests become overwhelmed by an exhibition that personalizes war through soldiers’ postcards. Passionate practitioners of all forms of printing and the book arts gather. Vendors and visitors share their excitement about zines, rare books and local print products.

Now is the time for The Printing Museum to have its bold moment. We need your help to continue being the place in Houston where you, your family and friends can find inspiration through the history, art and craft of printed words and images. Please consider a generous donation to the Museum’s Annual Fund Campaign and make your own bold statement about the power of print.

Thank you again for your support of The Printing Museum this year, and I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and most prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,

Mark C. Osborne, III

Executive Director
